Apple guidelines for iPhone web applications 4 July
Apple today released their guidelines for web application developers hoping to target iPhone users. They include information on getting your site to integrate with the phone's features such as dialling phone numbers and loading locations into the Google Maps application. They also give code examples to serve a different stylesheet to iPhone users.
Most interesting to me was the meta tags you can add to your page to control the page zooming. As you'll have seen in the demos, sites usually load zoomed out and you double-tap to zoom in. Turns out you can override this, and have it load at a specific zoom level, or page width. Apple recommends most applications are designed to be 320px wide, to avoid the zoom entirely in both portrait and landscape mode.
Developers are already updating their web applications with iPhone support, for example 37signals' Ta-da List. I'm looking forward to seeing more.
